A transit of Venus occurs when Venus passes directly between the sun and earth. This alignment is rare, coming in pairs that are eight years apart but separated by over a century. The most recent transit of Venus was a thrilling sight in 2004. After the June 2012 transit of Venus (the last one in your lifetime), the next such alignment occurs in 2117.

Basketry Merit Badge

Describe precautions you should take to safely use basketry tools and materials.

Do the following:

  1. Show your counselor that you are able to identify each of the following types of baskets: plaited, coiled, ribbed, and wicker.
  2. Describe three different types of weaves to your counselor.
  3. Plan and weave each of the following projects: a square basket; a round basket; and a campstool seat.

Pack a Box of Baking Soda When Going Camping

You can use it if a bee stings you. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply to the affected area to soothe it. To help put out a dying campfire, toss a handful of baking soda at the base of the fire. To get rid of smells in your sleeping bag, pour some baking soda inside to absorb odors.
